Over the last six months, we have received copies of a number of new journals.

The Ousl Journal

The OUSL Journal is published yearly by the Open University of Sri Lanka. An English-language journal, its first issue was published in 1997, and the Journal provides a forum for previously unpublished articles on theory, research, and pedagogy relating to teaching at the university level, and in particular to distance education. The 1997 issue includes articles on OU student profiles on their proficiency in English, the use of diaries/journals as a research tool in estimating credit in a distance education course, a process for assessment of the credit ratings at OU:SL compared with OU:UK, and a survey of student characteristics at the OU compared with those of students in conventional universities. One interesting addition was a set of thesis abstracts that give a good indication of students’ research interests. The articles are of a high quality and the journal would be a useful resource in particular for those in distance education institutions.
